Smith Duggan Once Again Named as a "Best Law Firm" by U.S. News & World Report. Six Lawyers Also Recognized by "Super Lawyers" and Eleven Partners Receive Highest Rating from Martindale-Hubbell
U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers recently released their “Best Law Firms” selections for the entire Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Smith Duggan Buell & Rufo LLP was named once again as one of the “Best Law Firms.” The rankings are based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes the collection of client and lawyer evaluations, peer reviews from leading attorneys in their field, and review of additional information provided by law firms as part of the formal submission process. Firms selected as 2019 “Best Law Firms” are recognized for professional excellence as a result of persistently impressive ratings from clients and peers.

At the same time, another highly regarded peer review organization, Super Lawyers, released its own selections of leading attorneys and six Smith Duggan attorneys made that list. They include the following.
Christopher A. Duggan, one of the most active trial lawyers in Massachusetts, represents publicly-traded and closely-held corporations and individuals primarily in products liability actions, aviation litigation, commercial disputes and insurance coverage cases.
Rodney E. Gould has handled numerous litigations in the federal and state courts throughout the country. He is an international authority on travel and tour operator law and has co-authored the leading text on the subject, “Litigating International Torts in U.S. Courts.”
David M. Governo has more than 35 years of experience counseling and representing corporations, insurance companies and individuals. He has a national reputation in the fields of toxic torts, products liability and building-related legal issues including asbestos, lead, mold, insurance and indoor air quality.
Tamara Lee Ricciardone is the head of the firm's workers' compensation defense team and a leader in its litigation practice group. She has extensive experience in the defense of workers' compensation claims for both insurers and self-insurers.
Matthew J. Walko represents business, insurance, and individuals in state and federal courts. His practice includes products and premises liability litigation, insurance defense and chapter 93A litigation, coverage opinions, construction, real estate, business and commercial litigation.
Vincent N. DePalo, an associate at Smith Duggan, was named a ‘Rising Star” by Super Lawyers. His practice focuses on asbestos litigation, toxic torts and products liability. He and David Governo recently secured a defense verdict in Massachusetts' first joint asbestos-tobacco trial.
In addition, eleven partners were also recently recognized by another leader in peer-review ratings, Martindale-Hubbell, with that organization’s highest designation. Barbara Hayes Buell, Gerard A. Butler, Jr., Thomas D. Herman, Paul A. Rufo, John B. Savoca, and H. Reed Witherby were selected.The five partners recognized by Super Lawyers also received the premiere rating from Martindale-Hubbell - AV-Preeminent. Almost all of the eleven partners have been selected over multiple years.
