Thomas D. Herman heads the corporate and international law practices at Smith Duggan Buell & Rufo LLO and is based in the firm’s Boston office. His practice focuses on domestic and international corporate organization, domestic and international corporate finance and trade, export compliance (including Foreign Corrupt Practices Act [FCPA], sanctions, embargoes, and export licensing). mergers and acquisitions, and trademark, copyright and intellectual property licensing. His extensive international experience includes representing clients in Western, and Central Europe, Russia, Cuba, and China. In his entertainment practice, he represents authors and independent filmmakers.
Educated at the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Oxford and Northeastern Universities, Mr. Herman was formerly First Deputy Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Revenue and Managing Director of BRG&G International Strategies in Boston. Was appointed by Boston Mayor Menino as a member of the Boston Landmarks Commission.. He also serves as President of the Pembroke College (Oxford) Foundation, Inc., is Secretary and General Counsel of the Hemingway Preservation Foundation, and is a former Vice-Chair of the World Affairs Council of Boston. Mr. Herman was Deputy National Issues Director for the 1988 Dukakis for President campaign. Mr. Herman was also formerly a producer for CNN and correspondent for National Public Radio.
